Understanding
Double, triple or Low-E: what's the difference?
Double glazing
Two panes separated by an argon-filled space. The reliable standard for most Montreal windows.
Triple glazing
Three panes and two insulating spaces. Superior thermal performance for north-facing or very cold facades.
Low-E glass
An invisible low-emissivity coating that reflects heat inward in winter and limits overheating in summer.
Our advice
When to choose what?
For most windows, Low-E + argon double glazing offers an excellent balance of performance, cost and weight. It's the most common choice in Quebec.
Triple glazing is worth it on north-facing facades, rooms very exposed to the cold, or large picture windows where insulation matters most. Count on a surcharge of about 20 to 40% over double.
In all cases, if your current unit is foggy, the principle remains the same: we replace only the sealed unit within your existing frame.
Fog on double or triple?
The phenomenon is identical: when the seal fails, moisture seeps between the panes and the argon gas escapes. Replacing the sealed unit restores both clarity and insulation, whatever the configuration.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between double and triple glazing?
Double glazing has two panes and one argon-filled insulating space. Triple glazing has three panes and two insulating spaces, significantly improving thermal and acoustic insulation, but costs more and slightly weighs down the unit.
When should I choose triple glazing?
Triple glazing is recommended on north-facing facades, very exposed to wind and cold, or for large glazed surfaces. For most windows, Low-E + argon double glazing already offers excellent value.
Does the argon gas escape over time?
A healthy sealed unit keeps its argon for many years. It's precisely when the seal fails that the gas escapes and fog appears — hence the importance of replacing the unit at the first signs.
Can a double or triple unit fog up?
Yes, both can fog up if the seal fails. The phenomenon is identical: moisture seeps between the panes. Replacing the sealed unit fixes the problem, whatever the configuration.
